“A portrait photographer depends upon another person to complete his picture. The subject imagined, which in a sense is me, must be discovered in someone else willing to take part in a fiction he cannot possibly know about.” -Richard Avedon, Master Photograher (1923 – 2004)
Portraits are my passion.
I love the interaction, the emotion, the truth and ultimately, the illusion. The idea that two human beings can have a conversation entirely emoted by subtle physical and metaphysical cues amazes me to this day. I dare say that at times, I have learned more about my subjects in 5 minutes of photographing them than in a day’s worth of talking with them. When both the photographer and the subject share an open and honest moment in time – magic happens and a portrait is made. That is the key to portraiture – human connection.
